The Chancel Choir at Newtown Presbyterian is an essential part of our worship. This ensemble supports congregational singing and sings an anthem two to three Sunday’s each month (September through June) and presents two major works each year on Palm Sunday and the fourth Sunday of Advent. These major works also feature a professional instrumental ensemble and our professional vocal quartet. Recent works have included Joseph Haydn, Missa Sancti Nicolai; Camille Saint-Saens, Christmas Oratorio; Gabriel Faure, Requiem; and J.S. Bach, Cantata 4 – Christ lag in todesbanden.
In 2009, this ensemble commissioned the new work, Rejoice Now, Heavenly Hosts, by Carlyle Sharpe. This piece was premiered on Easter Sunday 2010.
The Chancel Choir rehearses for 90 minutes each Thursday night in the choir room (2nd floor) at the Chancellor St. church.
