Worship Services
Newtown Presbyterian Church offers a variety of Sabbath worship times and services to allow for the needs of our diverse community. It may be that you delight in the singing of hymns and an extended postlude at the conclusion of the service. It may be that you enjoy choral music and anthems. Or it may be that you look forward to the weekly celebration of the Lord's Supper, the reading of Scriptures, and giving voice to traditional liturgy. However you approach the worship of God, we sincerely hope that you discover a worship experience here at Newtown Presbyterian Church that leaves you feeling strengthened, encouraged and inspired as you go forth to serve God and neighbor. We invite you to join us for worship this Sunday morning!
9:00 a.m. – This Sabbath worship service features traditional liturgy, prayers, and sacred hymnody, as well as choral anthems and a sermon based on the scriptural texts (usually Lectionary) for the day. Sunday school classes for children and youth are offered during the 9:00 a.m. worship. Holy Communion (Eucharistic Feast) is celebrated the first Sunday of every month.
Children are always welcome in our worship services! However, we do have a dedicated Childcare provider in our Nursery (across from the reception room with the TV) during our 9am services. If you feel you need to step out from the service with your child at 9am or at 11am, please feel free to use our Nursery and Overflow space to stay connected to the service with your child/children. See one of our Ushers for any assistance.
11am Communion Worship Service
The 11AM worship service is basically identical to the 9AM service (liturgy, prayers, scripture, sermon, music), with this important amendment: we gather at The Table (at the invitation of the host, our Lord Jesus Christ) to celebrate Holy Communion/Eucharist every Sunday. All are welcome to receive bread ("grain of the earth") and cup ("fruit of the vine"), which sacramentally bear witness to the body and blood of Jesus Christ. The Lord's Supper celebrates and affirms God's abundant, amazing grace. "Come," the old liturgy reads, "taste and see that the Lord is good!"
